2. What if my child is absent on the day of an SOL?
If possible, please avoid scheduling routine doctor’s appointments and trips during
SOL testing. Please let your child's teacher know if you are aware of an upcoming absence. Because makeup testing is scheduled as needed, please contact Ms. Crook if your child will be absent for more than one SOL test.
3. What if my child has failed an SOL?
Students may retake an SOL if they have passed the course and attended remediation for the test. The first opportunity to retake an SOL is in December. The next opportunity will be in June. Students will not be retested if they do not attend remediation sessions. Also, students may schedule to take their retake in the summer.
4. My child transferred to from a private school and/or different county, state or country after completing the 9th grade. Do they need to take SOL tests for previous courses?
Perhaps. If your child received a credit for completing the course and an SOL is associated with it, it may be required. Please contact Ms. Crook to discuss your child's specific situation regarding SOL testing. If a transfer occurs at the beginning of the year, your child may have the opportunity to take the SOL in September. If you would like to discuss which courses will be transferred, please see your child's counselor.
5. Is tutoring offered for SOL tests?
Yes. Dates and times for tutoring sessions vary by subject and will be offered during school. Please contact teachers directly to inquire about any remediation sessions they may offer. In addition, please check the Remediation page for more updated information and additional SOL resources.
6. When will I know my child’s scores?
Official score reports will be mailed home at the end of the school year. Both Writing and Non-Writing scores are included in the report. Students that fail an online SOL in May, may be notified by their teacher so that they can attend remediation and
retake the test in June.
7. Are the tests on paper or the computer?
SOLs are administered online, however, in very special situations that have already been determined, a paper test may be administered. Some Henrico assessments may be administered on paper or online.
Thanks to Kathy Cartwright.
